Knowing WHY you do what you do is the β€œNORTH STAR” of your business and foundation of your BRAND.

After over a decade of this work, I saw, time and time again, that clients with clarity in what they stood for and WHY had a much easier time with creating EVERYTHING in their business. Those that weren’t clear, struggled with making decisions and sharing their message prolonging growth significantly and wasting time, energy and money.

And let’s be real; most, even slightly tech savvy, entrepreneurs can make their website and marketing themselves. Where many get stuck is in their message, their story and articulating their reason for doing what they do.

When you’re not clear on what you stand for and why, neither are your potential clients.

MY WHY, MY STORY

Growing up, all I wanted was to feel seen, heard, and understood.

I grew up in the midwest, the south west suburbs of Chicago, and am the youngest of five girls. My parents divorced when I was in kindergarten and my mom raised us alone on the salary of a bank teller. Needless to say she was completely overwhelmed and distracted so my older sisters essentially β€œraised” me.

In a house full of female energy (AKA drama) I would get lost and although there were many β€œpeople'' in the house I always felt very unseen and unheard. I would try anything to get my moms attention from fights with my sisters to getting suspended from school. Like any other young child, all I ever wanted was one-on-one time with my mom.

When I was fourteen my mom was diagnosed with stage four cancer and our whole world changed.

Her cancer moved very fast. She underwent chemo and radiation with no success. She ended up at home in bed with hospice visiting the house regularly. I remember having to walk by her room in order to get to mine and now instead of wanting one-on-one time with my mom, I dreaded walking by, afraid she would call me in and I would have to see her so weak and ill.

Then one day it happened. I was tip-toeing past her room thinking she was sleeping and I heard her call out β€œCarolina” which she would sort of sing when she said it. I froze and for a second thought β€œMaybe she really didn’t hear me, I can just pretend like I am not here and she will forget?” But I just couldn’t stomach ignoring her.

I went into her room. She was sitting on her bed with pillows stacked behind her, a turban covering her bald head and the night stand covered in medicine bottles which was now the permanent decor. She asked me to sit down on the vanity chair at the side of her bed and I did.

It was just her and I. I finally had her undivided attention.

The exact words she spoke next are a blur but the feeling has never left me. There was something about the look in her eyes as she slowed down to tell me the details of all the things she loved about me and how proud she was of the little lady sitting beside her bed. She told me how much she loved me and talked about all the big moments in my life she would miss as though she could see directly into my future.

She passed away shortly after this conversation. At the time I couldn’t understand this tender moment with my mother in any other way than she loved me and she was saying goodbye. But now years later,

I know that as my mother looked at me that day, she was not only looking at everything I had been but she could see everything that I could become.

That moment is a moment I have carried with me because it was so important to me, and I know it’s so important to everyone, to have somebody in your life who can truly see you (and it may not be your mother) but someone who can truly see you as you are now and see the potential of who you can become. This is the lens through which I see my clients and the world.

My why statement

β€œIn Everything I do I BELIEVE in CULTIVATING AUTHENTICITY. I believe EVERYONE is UNIQUE and it’s their BIRTHRIGHT to feel SEEN and HEARD in the UNIQUENESS of who they are.”
